Cask Master Extra Special Bitter

£14.95

A cousin to the modern-day pale ales, our Extra Special Bitter features large amounts of bittering hops with just enough dry hopping to give a fresh, floral nose. The deep copper colour and complex toasted cereal backbone is seasoned with a touch of brown malt to give a subtle smoky sweetness. A true no-nonsense pint of bitter.

Description

If you ever doubted the power of this copper-coloured colossus you have only to look around at the cask selection of any British pub. Ask any cask-sampling tourist what they will miss most about the beer engines of Britain and one style will emerge as the world’s favourite: Extra Special Bitter.

The ESB style was forged in the same industrial revolution fires as Pale Ale, but on the ‘bitter’ stem of the family tree, dry hopping and bittering hop additions became key. Our recipe is no different. Here, we feature a large bittering hop charge followed by a late dry hop addition. This combination gives a subtle, hoppy impression without taking over. The malt bill on the other hand is anything but gentle. Munich and crystal malts give our bitter a bready sweetness that will linger far after the bittering hops have left the palate. Whilst a heavy dose of the quintessential Maris Otter underlines the whole ensemble with its nutty toastiness and deep ruby colour. Drink this beer at any temperature, out of any glass, and at any age and there will be something magnificent waiting behind each sip. A true no-nonsense pint.

This all-grain beer kit includes all the grain and hops that you’ll need to make this traditional Extra Special Bitter along with a package of English ale yeast for fermentation. We have also included an instructional card and links to other resources for a worry-free brew day.
